Was out shooting most of the day as I have this week off. Was messing around with my broad heads and get them grouping awesome. Took the advice from someone on Can and put a small o ring behind my broad head and lined up my blades with my veins. At first they were not lined up and my arrow looked like a threw a piece of spaghetti at the target was wobbling and all over the place. Messed around with position of them a bit and by the end of it was shooting groups at 50 yards I couldn't shoot at 30 last week. Will do the same when I get the new broad heads in the mail soon. Getting pretty antsy to get in the stand.

There seems to be some Buzz around about 100 gr.Toxic Broadheads. Supposed to leave a gruesome hole, but I'm seeing mixed reviews on how they fly. Could have something to do with bow set ups too. You can You Tube Toxic Broadheads to see some of their results.
Anybody using them ?

I almost bought a pack when I bought the Montecs. I've heard good and bad about them. All the videos I've seen they seem awesome. There is one of a moose hunt. YouTube toxic broad head vs moose. Devastating. Going to leaves and limbs Friday to get new strings on the bow I will pick up a pack to do some test with. I bought the wasp drone 100gr as a recommendation from Jen rivet from living the dream with John and Jen the bear outfitters in Alberta they swear by them. Will let you know how both work out.

As I had posted under "Choice of Weapon" this year I took the plunge and purchased a Excalibur 335 Micro Crossbow.
One of the broadheads they recommended was the Rage mechanical in 125 grain. I was not overly pleased with their slipcam system as you have to pay extra attention to ensure the blades are tucked under the tiny plastic slipcam ring. If not the blades will open prematurely in flight from the shock of the string release.
There was no question as to it's performance on my bear. A perfectly placed shot slipped between the ribs on both sides leaving a huge entrance and exit wound with blood visible on the ground at the location the bear was shot , which doesn't happen very often with a broadhead. With a very visible blood trail it was only ...maybe ...60 yards to where the bear succumbed.
With a complete passthru at 25 yards the bolt lodged 5" deep into a dead log. It was quite evident that I would need to cut around the broadhead to extract it. Notice the blood on ground just above bolt .
Altho I was very pleased with the performance of the Rage I was disappointed in the durability. Upon extracting the broadhead I noticed that the Ferrule had been bent. At $50 for a package of 3 I expected to be able to reuse the broadhead with the replacement blades at another $30/pkg.
I think I may do a bit of research in the off season and experiment with some fixed blade options. Apparently according to some Utube searching there are some great broadheads that possess true flight characteristics and are deadly accurate.

Hate to butt in 7 months late, but here's my .02. After flinging arrows for 40 some odd years, owning a shop for 12, I've recently settled on Slick Trick Vipertricks. They fly with my field points and dropped 2 nice bucks this fall. I can buy 100 and 125s and use the same blades for both. Have no complaints about any head I've used, they all did the job. Some just do it better for me than others. Play with several, find the one that flies the best and make sure it's SHARP!

I'm not an overly big fan of the Mechanicals, tho I did seem to have good luck with the old Spitfires. The only reason I went with the Rage was because of the cutting surface, they definitely did the job.
There are a lot of good fixed blades out there now ...almost too many ... that seem to fly pretty good so I think I'll go back to them with the crossbow and I'll continue using the Magnus Stingers on the Longbow. I took the weight back down to about 53 lbs on my old 2005 Hoyt Ultramag maybe I'll see how those Slick Trick Vipertricks fly .
Thanks for the suggestion ilbowhnter!
