Tuk and Bea back together! Makes my heart go pitter patter!
Like Oscar & Felix or Laurel & Hardy or the 3 stooges minus one.
Should be an interesting season. banana
Tuk I know your concern and I have video taken by me showing a bear actually eating an entire plastic bag. It went down like a huge long strand of spaghetti.
I've also seen some pretty strange stuff come out of the rear ends too!
I had dogs that used to rip stuff apart and often there was rug ... string ... long grass etc hanging out. AND how many bears raid garbage cans, dump sites etc.
In conclusion I think it bothers us more then them.
I know they will shred / gut the bottom of the bag but it's not very often they get the entire bag off. I will tie the bag on with twine if need be!

Actually Skeeter ... and I kid you not ... It's Lewis and Clark ! Seriously.!
We do strike a rather dashing figure ...don't ya think ?
Who the hell would name their son Merriweather ?
You're probably right about the plastic but still just doesn't sit right with me. Especially if a young cub tries to eat a large piece of bag because it has food residue. I guess they'll eat whatever you use , so for that reason I can't see myself using the idea , as much as I like it in principal. It's just a "what if " conscience thing for me.

any suggestions for food containers?
I know this is going to work (in theory) ... any suggestions from the readership would be appreciated.
Nothing has been implemented yet so there is still time for changes.
Only a fool knows everything and maybe with some brainstorming we can make it better.

I'm scouring the internet right now looking for a biodegradable, somewhat strong, leak proof bag that can be safely eaten by animals.
Grocery bag size would be ideal.
waiting for a reply back from a company that makes biodegradable bags for diaper disposal.

I think in theory its a great Idea . The sausage casings is an intersting slant! Tallest bear gets the top sauasage in the link. Just yankin' your chain Bruddah ... but I do think you're on the right track. It might also solve ilbowhntr's dilema about not using barrels.
I hate playing the Devil's Advocate here but I still question the use of biodegradable bags. The issue of choking or a twisted gut concerns me. How quickly do those bags break down? Any I've seen still have that plastic look and feel.
Maybe we're overthinking this ... what about paper bags? Just need a bigger umbrella type apparatus to keep the paper dry ...OR ...better yet ...Even a string thru the bottom of a bucket (hung upside down) that's tied to the bag on the inside. They rip down the bucket or at least can paw at the bag to break it open. Bag stays dry, shreds easily and is edible for all intents...
Call it a Bell Bait ! (same principle) You could even spray a scent on the inside of the bucket as an attractant.
Skeeter you got any old edible panties laying around from your Stud Days ? rolling

It's been a while since I've been on here. Zero luck last year with Mr. Bruin. The couple I did see were real nervous and moving fast so no chance at a shot. I did however get my buck with my trad bow...64" longbow 44#. I used cedar shaft arrows that I built my self. As we can't use bait here in B.C. I'll go to spot and stalk again this year for bear but I must admit with all the time I put in, I have my 30-06 in the truck just in case.

Hey Edge ...Welcome back . Was beginning to think you might be in a dried up ole bear turd by now ! Great to have ya back.
If it makes ya feel any better I didn't get one either. Had only one chance at a decent bear (for me at least) but even with the crossbow he just wouldn't give me the broadside shot I wanted ... had to let him walk . He never gave me a second opportunity. I keep questioning myself but I know I did the right thing.
Like they say ...There's always next year ! I Hope.

Well this is the 2d year I’m feeling like I’m getting too old for the hunt. Then I see the fall colors& smell the woods & the 77 yr body gets restless. One of the fellows in my Tues night mens group I discovered is the forester for Pilchuck Timber Co. In the past I have tried twice to obtain permission to hunt bear on their property. Two wks ago I asked him if the bears were peeling trees. He replied yes & the damage is increasing each year recently. They only allow bow hunters to hunt on their property. It has a fee involved & the hunter is assigned to their own 150 acre plot. It is more challenging in WA as baiting & hound hunting isn’t allowed. He said the bowhunters aren’t getting enough bears. Guess they should consult the BQO membership. Before we parted, he promised a permit & gate key. My son said he would go w/me. Feeling younger already.
