So I started baiting a couple weeks ago. Mainly to see what's around and see if any shooters are coming in yet. Just purchased 25 acres to build a new house next year and neighbours told me they seen the biggest bear they've ever seen in their lives cross their field onto my property( they have seen lot and lots of bears). When should I set up a new site to make sure this bear is around come hunting. I know running 2 sites now would be a lot of bait this early but I know my original site has some big ones. Should I just put out some scent to get them attracted and a small bit of bait every now and then or would they get bored of not having a lot of food and leave?

I just had a Mack attack ... welcome back !
On a new site I'd probably start the 1st of August. You definitely want to have a stink bucket hanging. Once they start hitting they'll keep coming back as long as there's something there for them. Just be aware that the bait may go cold for a bit when the wild berries ripen, but they will return. Your Trail Cams will let you know what they're doing.
A male that's in the area now may be 15-20 miles away come August. During spring mating season the males will roam their territory in search of sows so he may be there one day and gone the next. Having said that , bears are opportunists and won't pass up a free meal when it's offered. If sows are coming to the bait the males won't be far away.
First things first ... find yourself a good stand location. Keep us in the loop !

Yeah been busy with school/work and also had a daughter. She's 6 months now so takes up a lot of my time. Gotta do good now for momma so I can run off during hunting season lol. Going to the land this Saturday to do some clearing for my driveway and will go out to where bear was seen and see what kind of signs I can find where to set up. Will keep everyone posted.

Hmmm ... I'm sensing a theme here. You really have to do something about this School/Work thing. Taking up way too much of your bear woods time !
If you're lucky you may find a bear trail ..Good Luck !

Haha yeah it's a killer. But might as well work it now while I'm young then I can hunt a lot more later on. Looking for rotational jobs now so might have 2 on 2 off to hunt here very shortly.

I'm also trying a new bait this year. Going to be mixing dry oats and corn with molasses and a suet. Buying in bulk and will mix in 55 gallon drums then bucket it out in 5 gallon buckets. This will be at the new site. Still sticking to the faithful bread and old Timmy's at the old bait.

Instead of oats ... take a look at Beef Finisher , it has a mixture of grain and corn with molasses added. I still add molasses and cheap pancake syrup along with a bag of Ole Roy dog food .

Mack NEW BAIT It's nothing that has not been tried probably 1000 times or more The best bait to use is whatever you can find cheaply in your area. Also dry will last longer before spoiling Im not a big fan of molasses. ... Anything with caloric value is all that is needed Remember there is no magic concoction or bait. Just feed them Currently I'm in an Irish Pub in Venice Italy watching the world cup with my bear hunting partner. Our wives are out shopping for more frickin shoes/purses etc counting down the days to get back home Here I am 1000 miles away thinking of bears 😨

Yeah I mean new bait to me. I've always just stuck with the old bread and the old Tim Hortons but breads been getting harder to get and having feed stores close was thinking on switching stuff up on the new site on my land.

I’m surprised that Skeeter didn’t have a heart attack when he saw the size of “hole” in that barrel. Per his mentoring, I cut mine at 2”!

[br I showed Mark the pic and it was a good thing he wasn't eating anything. He woulda required the himelick manouver. All kidding aside this is what makes bear baiting such a buzz! If you bait and get bears then really. What did you do wrong. Actually nothing . In Florence now gals are out shopping AGAIN! WTF? and they say we've got an obsession.

tuk d 1 How long do you find the beef finisher lasts compared to say just bread and baked goods. I've never used grains so just trying to see what I'm in for Picked up 200lbs of finisher the other day. Will be going to set new site tomorrow.
