Making clean , certain kills should be the top priority of any hunter wishing to harvest a bear. When hunting, shot placement is super critical. They are tougher than nails and don't leave much of a blood trail, so putting a quick killing arrow or bullet through the boiler room will help ensure a speedy recovery.
The biggest challenge with bear shot placement is that their vitals and front shoulder structure is significantly different than that of the deer family. The shoulder and leg bones are larger, heavier and tougher.
The best shot for archery and firearm hunters is one that has the bear broadside where the projectile has the least amount of distance to enter into the chest cavity. This shot leaves the most room for error. A quartering away shot also offers a target, but the projectile may be slowed because of the intestinal tract.
Whatever the hunting tool, bear shot through the heart or lungs drop fairly quickly. The results are a well-bled animal with minimal amount of damaged meat.
This is unquestionably one of the best graphics you will find to study shot placement. Note how large an area the lungs take up.
