Soon we were talking about Todd. He had went up early that morning to set up camp. Roger had met Todd before but chip had not. Now I've known Todd a few years and knew what a jerk he can be....I told chip that when Todd started talking to just look at me and I would either shake my head yes(that it was true) or no(that he was full of b.s.). I also told chip that if Todd was to ask him what he did for a living to say he was a preacher. Chip was a little confused at this but I explained he would soon understand.

The ride to camp started East of Denver at 5280 feet. Less than 4 hours later we were at 11,200. We were all anxious to get to camp. When we rolled up there was probably a half inch of snow on the ground that had fallen earlier in the day. We got our gear set up in the tent and Roger was ready to hunt. Todd on the other hand was wet and cold. He stayed at camp while we did a short hike. Lots of sign but no elk.

I'll never forget the look on Todd's face when I told him I was a Preacher ... you could literally see the life being sucked from his body ! Thought I might have to perform last rights ! The anguish in his eyes ...No swearing? No dirty jokes? He didn't know what to think. I kept a straight face as long as I could Henpecked !
Yeh Right Henpecked ! Like that was going to happen. I ain't climbin that S*#t !
Although I must say the altitude sickness was a concern. Especially going from sea level to 11,000 ft in the same day.Lucky for us the meds I picked up from the pharmacist did the trick. Having said that, it was interesting how the lack of oxygen affects one's ability to climb those hills !
Bea (Blackwidow) and Henpecked out for an evening scout the first night in camp

So Todd and I had been talking smack back and forth since we got there. I told him and the others it looked like low income camping since he didn't have carpet in his tent. From there it went downhill even faster. He said he was cold and getting undressed to climb in his sleeping bag. I accused him of using any excuse to get naked in front of our guests. It was about this time Todd started saying things that would have made a sailor blush.....I kept poking at him and it only got worse. Finally I said to him "do you know what chip does for a living?"......more vulgar language escaped his lips...one more time I said " Do you know what chip does for a living?" He looks at chip and finally asks......... of course chip replied he was in the ministries..........Todd wanted to die but he was really cussing at me now and all I could do was keep poking him. He was apologizing to chip between vulgarities........
Roger, chip and I went out hunting that evening leaving Todd talking to himself in the tent. Away from camp we were laughing .

We had hiked to a spot over looking a huge valley. Postcard pretty but then pictures really never truly capture it all.
After dark we made are way back to camp. Roger and chip I think had been up for 18 or more hours by this time.

Chip being the nice guy wanted to tell Todd the truth, I said never tell him....or at least wait a couple of years. Knowing there would be heck to pay if he found out. Chip won and I lost, Todd was not amused.

Ahhhhh ... rolling rolling rolling ! It's still funny Steve !
You're absolutely right about the picture not catching the view. I was pretty much awestruck the whole time we were there.
I have to admit when we first reached camp that first day I thought to myself ..." This is home for a week ?" I was a bit concerned as to the comfort factor. I never knew a tent could be so nice ! We were blessed with good weather with the occasional afternoon sprinkle , which I'm told is a normal occurrence as part of the daily weather in the mountains. We didn't want or need for anything. Ya spend a day climbing hills at 11,000 feet in that fresh mountain air ... man I slept like a baby .

A good night sleep after a long day was what I needed. Roger and Todd headed down into the timber while chip and I went above treeline to see if we could see anything. The pictures from up top looking over the snow was where we were. Lot of pretty country but no elk.
