Wondering how everyone's season is going. I have been working 18 hour days all last 2 weeks so I'm beat haven't got a chance to get out yet. Thankfully my dad was nice enough to keep baiting my site for me. Hopefully I will get out this weekend and next week a bit.

Yikes ...18 hour days ...that's just brutal . Great that your Dad can help you out ! Ha he been checking your Trailcam? any idea on what's coming in?
Just finishing my first week myself. I had a good friend over from Newfoundland this week so I more or less guided him. I had my bow but had little intention of shooting until he got one. Best night was 7 bears ... Sow and two cubs which are always fun to watch, one smaller one , 2 - 2 ringers that usually came in together, but the smaller one dominated the bait as the other paced impatiently, and one other shooter that came in but never gave Lance the shot. He had lots of chances at the 2 Ringers but opted to pass.
The bigger of the 2 ringers was so hard to judge ... Had the width and girth but was short making it really hard to judge weight wise. This guy was really timid to come in and would not come in if I were seated. Can't count the times he looked up at me ! Looks bigger until he's at the barrel . Certainly not what I consider a shooter .
Nice to know these guys are still around ... earliest Fat Boy has been in was after 8pm - 9 pm, but was frequently at the bait thru nights ... just can't seem to luck into a daytime encounter.

Didn't get a trail cam up until I arrived two days before the season opener, but over the course of the next three days...before they ate the camera.. I had picks of nine or ten different bears, including Ma & Junior...   A handful of potential shooters...    And this brute...    For reference, the bait log is nearly 4 1/2 long and has a diameter a bit over two feet. Passed up an estimated 250, a 300+, and one I figure was pushing 375 on the fourth night...all within a half hour! Rest of the story later... Roe |

Yeah he has been checking cams as well, same activity as before couple smaller bears some alright ones 1 I thought was big until I got a photo of another one that came in. Have a couple new ones, one picture of a sow with 3 cubs in quite frequently. Im just holding out to get the chance at that big one I have coming in with the bow, be my first bear and first big game animal with the bow.

Only had this little fella ...Digger ... come in last night.
Digger you ask ... the little frigger likes to paw all the bait out and pick out the sweets.
Just hoping all the shooters haven't all gone nocturnal on me. Seems that if you don't get one within the first few days on stand, opportunities diminish exponentially ! Temps have finally started to cool off at night, hoping that may help the bears desire to bulk up.

Not really. Still working crazy hours, have to take a week or 2 off soon. 60 hours was the least I had the last month or more working usually 7 days a week. Still getting hits on the bait as dad is still generous enough to do all the work for me. Hopefully soon I will get one.

Was out today just to check the camera as I had to go back to work but mr big is finally showing up again and at good times.  HOPEFULLY this weekend I can finally get to sit and hunt. |

If ya don't mind me askin' ... What The heck do you do to be working those kind of hours ?
My Sonny Boy ... Prime time is on and you should be in the woods ! Don't make me come up there and drag you work blistered arse out to the woods!

Daylight is getting shorter by the day Lil Brother !
One piece of advice ...no matter what .. take the time to get yourself a good picture of your harvest !
Take a bunch of pictures of you and your Dad with the bear in a woods setting. Clean all the leaves and needles off the bear so that that it's nice and clean. If you don't have a tripod ...invest in one ! Walmart has some nice ones fairly cheap and get a timed photo with you and your dad with the bear together ...Trust me ...you won't regret it !

I'm a millwright, on the road crew, usually doing shutdowns at plants and other facilities. Usually travel all over to work so the long days are called for when shutdowns are on. I am going to be taking a week off here soon to hunt and am only working in truro from pictou coming up so will have evenings to hunt.
As for the pictures my mom is a camera fanatic, takes photography classes the last couple years and actually takes good photos. She has all the gear to take a good picture.
And dad is going to be getting a very very nice gift. Will hopefully have him in the stand too when I take the bear, or maybe I'll even let him take it.
Will post an update later in the week and let you know what happened.

Ahhh ... Well that makes sense !
I'm hoping you can get in the woods soon , before it's too late ! You still have bears coming ?

Haven't been in the woods for a few weeks now....we recently had a cruncher of a storm system go through and lots of rain. Hoping to get out this Sat. spot and stock here so we will be covering alot of ground on the logging roads and glassing the sidehills. With this much rain, the salmon runs should be coming but, I'd like to get a blacky BEFORE he starts the salmon buffet...here's hoping
