Bear Log ... Mon 26 Sept 16 After not hunting opening week of the bear season and guiding a friend Week #2, with plenty of opportunities at lesser bears and an unpunched tag, It was finally time for me to try and secure my winter's meat.
After having "Chubby " walk right underneath my stand at 4pm, this 2 1/2 ringer made an appearance at 5:40 pm. This is "Iffy" , one that Lance had only a breif moment to decide whether on not to pull the trigger on earlier the previous week.By the time we decided it was takable the window of opportunity had closed.
After agonizing on whether or not I wanted to continue expending the time and expense of baiting with only one week of vacation left, I had to make a decision. Sometimes you have to recognize a gift when it is presented to you... Broadside 25 yards
60 yards up the trail ! The Rage Mechanical had done its job ... Middle of the Middle - no question on the shot !
It wasn't one of the bigger bears I was holding out for, but a beautiful bear that will make for some excellent table fare.

Congrats! Sure like the way you guys produce an "illustrated" story. Now, if I can just fill my wallet-worn tag so I have something to say.
I did manage to come upon a young coyote sitting in the middle of the trail, sorta frozen & intent upon something. The wind was in my favor & when it did turn its head toward me I would freeze my mismatched camo "clown suit" managed to do its job. I had been to the range a wk ago & re-sighted in the carbine. I thought I might as well check the 100 yd setting on the Marble peep sight on this yote. So rare that Sideswipe can creep up on one & see them 1st. Just about to shoulder the carbine when the yote turned around & started walking towards me. I remained frozen until the yote turned his head to one side allowing me to get into shooting position.
Suddenly the yote froze at a small branch that was sagging across the trail. I could see both his front legs & both his pointy ears. I figured it was pretty obvious, at 50 yds, where the yotes chest & throat would be. I let fly & the 35 Rem Did it's job. Walking up to the yote, a Blacktail doe stArted blowing at me. Perhaps she had a young'in w/her. Maybe a future buck for me eh?
