Howdy Ha. I did glimpse over your poll. I confess that at my stage in life flying into an unknown area I appreciate all the help I can get. I have enlisted the help of a licensed guide guide once. He was helpful & I learned a lot from him.
When hunting locally, I prefer the adventure of learning by myself. Now about you? What do you get a thrill out of doing in the wild outdoors? Always enjoy hearing from someone new. Bruce aka Sideswipe

Great Question Roger ! I'm quite surprised in the results so far !
A different spin on the norm for what is perceived as traditional guiding services !

This is a great topic Lost Hunter.
Wow ..Just checked in on the results of Lost Hunters quick poll on Guided vs Semi Guided hunts ! Must say I'm quite surprised at the 90/10 split for semi guided hunts !
As a piggyback on that theme ... I'd be curious as to what your expectations would be with regards to a semi guided hunt ! Are you looking for a trophy animal? What size bear would satisfy your expectations ? Would you be happy to pass on a number of lesser bears,(assuming a shooter bear doesn't present a shot), enjoying the experience and just walking away empty handed?
The big question here is .... what makes your hunt successful?
Hunting ... is hunting ... and we all measure success in our own way. Personally ...I love the meat, so a 200 lb bear is prime eating for me. I've held out, waiting for the Big Boy I had on camera and ended up with "Tag Soup " , which made for an empty freezer. Don't get me wrong ... If I have a Bruiser on Tcam ... I'll play his silly game for a while ... but I won't hold out for him.
As a Longbow hunter I also respect my quarry ... big or small ... everyone is a trophy !
What Say You ?

The trophy is definitely in the eye of the hunter. In my opinion, any animal with a bow is a trophy.

I started that poll due to the mess NS guiding laws are in. Everyone and his dog it seems have become a guide or outfitter. Its brutal. About half are compliant with the laws. So I started asking question....not very popular I can tell you that! I want to get back into it....but I can't lie to clients....but to do it all above board....I couldn't compete with those that have nothing invested with respect to insurance, permits, licenses etc. And thats kinda frustrating. I'm thinking of just offering a basis hunt, not meals and lodging, because that get into a much bigger cost. I would suggest anyone coming to NS for a paid guided hunt to expressly ask his guide/outfitter if they have all the required permits required to host a fully outfitted hunt.
