we also walked into one of my favorite wild places. Although, by this point, a nearby logging operation made it a pretty easy walk into the barrens. But still a cool spot.....it seemed much cooler when the walk in took 1.5 hours......

Wow ! ... That goes back a few years ...2011. Some pretty awesome country there. So glad I had the opportunity to visit "Waternish Lodge".
What Lost Hunter didn't tell you was that I had to work for my lodging. It seems there was a bit of plumbing work that needed attending. It was certainly worth the cost of admission.
I have to admit Lost Hunter's ability with a Yote call were a marvel. I've never seen one person call in so many Pileated Woodpecker ...really something to behold.
Thanks for the memories Brother !

I never thought I would have a place capture my heart like the St Mary's River Valley. And that little ol house we called a camp. We could walk to salmon pools when those big silver beauties , aka atlantic salmon, were king and would rise just often enough to sip a dry fly off the surface of the pool....to make it interesting. And the deer, o the deer....and later the bear hunting. It was indeed a paradise. Selling it was a big decision, and when I did , I knew I'd miss it....and likely never find another land mistress such as that was. I was wrong. I've looked at dozens of properties iver the last bunch of year...but they always came up short...I was beginning to think I would never find a place I'd wanna own......until last week....we looked at a property....and finally, that feeling I have been waiting for came over me like a tidal wave....instantly, I knew it was the peice I had been looking for. It's not the biggest piece at 80 acres, but it borders a great river for fishing and canoeing and may well have as good of deer hunting as anywhere in this Province. Good bear hunting is about 15 minutes away.....I can't wait to hang some cams. Its like starting all over again, as I did with my camp on The St Marys many many years ago....I wanna climb every hill, round every corner, and leave some boot tracks on every inch of the area. My legs seem to have a little extra spring in them, ready to hit the ground on some recon missions.

Cool and thanks....Ive looked at literally dozens of properties since selling my old house (camp) down on the St Marys River. I dunno, there's just something about a long river system that attracts me ( and wildlife). There's an insane amount of deer on these farms. Some good ones too. With all the corn fields around there's bound to be bears.....but I'm 10 minutes away from likely set up spots. But in NS these days, I suspect with bait you could draw bears in just about anywhere in the Province. I'll def keep you posted on what I see. This year, I hope to lease out the fields to farmers and perhaps some goose hunters. Once I get my first aid course up to date...I hope to maybe guide a few hunters again this fall.... I'd love to find a few spots to bait some bears froma canoe....easy peasy....paddle right up to them...not much lugging.....that sounds appealing. I'm also considering doing some remote bear sites for sale far off the beaten paths. I bought a killer frame pack the other day for that reason. My plan for these sites is to only offer them when I have a big bruin coming. I have no real desire to guide anyone to 150 lb bears....nothing wrong in the least for shooting them....I just dont wanna guide folks to them. My plan is to get a couple remote sites rolling and offer them up ( with tc pics) to hunters looking to tag a bigger than average bruin. I'll provide just a minimal guide service. The rest is up to hunter, such as food and lodging and even hanging their own stands ( as you know the requirements here in NS to host and lode hunters are stringent ). It's not a hunt for newby bear hunters who just want a bear. Its for hunters who don't mind a little work but want a chance at a big bear. I'd be the first to say don't come if you have never hunted bears before. If I dont get any monster bears visiting in shooting hours....I won't even offer the stands for hunts. Hope that's not too much of a plug.

Ahhh Retirement ...Gotta love it.
Sounds like you've got it all figured out. I love the concept, but I'm not surprised. You always seem to have great ideas for doing things just a little bit different. I'm sure you'll have no problem attracting in some serious hunters.
Should you rekindle your Guiding Services I'd be more than happy to have you post it on Bqo! Just out of curiosity ...was the pack frame an online purchase? If so from whence did you order? Looks pretty handy!
Keep us in the loop Bud !

here's what we use to get our bait IN and then our bear quarters/hides OUT.
hard to beat the plastic garbage can. no blood running down your back legs or donut sugar.
