I've done this for a couple years now.......take 3-4 stacks of bread and stomped it into 55 gallon drum. Put on top. Store with top o bottom. Bread will last a long time this way....its amazing and easy. Sometimes a bit of mold on the outside....but good on the inside. Further to this.....if u stomp it full of bread....and then pour if full to the brim with fryer grease....I doubt it will ever go bad....

Roger .. just a couple questions and observations. pot stiring
if you're a fat guy I guess you can get more loafs into the barrel with the increase in compaction (less air, less mold)
Probably would go faster if da wife was feeding in the bread slices while you danced. (does she even know what goes on in the garage?)
Also - shoes or bare feet? You old grape crushing wino.
On a serious note I know guys that do the same thing as you're doing with donuts. They use those cardboard 55 gal drum with the lids.
They say they only get mold on the top layer. Makes ya wonder what the frig we're eating!
but they need a sod shovel to cut the stuff out.

but they need a sod shovel to cut the stuff out. It depends on the season re; bare feet or boots ( same for pants lol). Its scary how long it will last....they are heavy tho when full lol. Its not a perfect solution....but it will save some bait for those without a walk in. Around here now...bait is easy to get early...but once the season starts...it get tuff.....the last thing ya want is bait source drying up.....a week before season opener . I dunno where or by who...but I was told there is a product u can apply that prevents molding? It might be only available commercially . ( if it even exists lol)

Explains why you keep tuk around. Strong like ox -almost as smart! BUT He says he's been carrying you for years - one way or another! :-)
My next door neighbour also hunts bears - at his camp by Kirkland Lake. He gets a lot of donuts from Kristy Kreme from Toronto area. Those things are heavy. Need a wheelbarrow just to get a dozen to the car! Anyway he made a wood cube mold about 1/2" smaller then the width of his freezer. He drops in the garbage bag then packs in those donuts and hooks up the shop vac and sucks them down. Like vacuum sealing. Then he removes the wood box externally and puts the donut cube into the freezer. He does this to maximize donuts per freezer.
They're frickin heavy though! His back and his brain haven't caught up with each other ... YET!
You are correct about bait timing. The closer to the season the harder it can be to get.

Skeeter ....Roger has moved on to bigger and better things. He bought a chunk of land which he's been cultivating for deer and is helping out an Outfitter friend, so he's a pretty busy boy. We still keep in touch and get together for coffee whenever he can find time in his busy "Retirement" schedule... Can't keep a good man down as they say.
Lol ! I'm sure he just got "tukked out".
He knows I'm just a phone call away if he ever needs me and that there's always a spot waiting for him any time he wants it !

tuk always good to chat with the tukster. just never enough hours in the day. I dont even know how I had time to work before. Between the little booking agency, working for North Shore Outfitters and Where Ya Wanna Be , Cabelas, and the normal life stuff....every day is a rush to the checkered flag. I wouldnt want it any other way tho. If it was slower....I'd have to have more coffee with Chip lol. Turkey hunting trip coming up in two weeks.....and I have a new outfitter who wants me to hunt his camp this spring...but I'm not sure I will make it....and I'd hate to turn down a free hunting trip for spring bear lol. Speaking of spring bear....for those lucky enough to be heading out....make sure u identify and confirm that bear in front of you isnt a sow with cubs. Turn the volume up....you will hear the sow popping and grunting. I went in to bait...and scared her off the bait. The two cubs were about 12 feet above us the whole time I baited and reset trail cam etc.....all the while the sow was 20-30 yards away letting me know she was not happy with the situation. I was never in any danger....but she had my undivided attention I can assure ya!...Besides the sow talk and popping ( especially near the end)....those spring songbirds are worth the listen.

I wonder if just using 5 gallon buckets with tight fitting lids would work ?

I'm sure that would work Hotwire ...the secret is to get all the air out to keep it from getting moldy.
Sure would be easier to transport !
