Here's a sign that I install about 40yds away from my bait on my incoming baiting trail. It gives that hiker a heads up to turn around. And it gives the guy that might vandalize your set up something to think about. If they found your trail and are on it they will stumble right into your bait site. I have only ever had 3 visitors over all the years. Two just looked around and waved at the camera and have never returned. One stole the camera and tried to trash the set-up. We moved that bait a kilometer away. This last one prompted the sign you see here. Since the sign I have never had a visitor.

I like it. It is a shame that you have to post a sign like this.

Yes it's a shame. But the world is changing and there's people out there that don't think like us. At least the sign will make them think about it.
Am I bluffing? You're turn! You might be held accountable for your actions. Facebook and the internet and cell cameras and wireless give you the ability to identify the culprit.
Anyway, I only ever had one bait intentionally vandalized and if I coulda caught them I might be in jail today. I was hopping mad!
Rather then waste time setting a trap for them if they returned - we just moved the bait site.
It bothers me that I was right, they were wrong, but they won!

My baits are in 200yds (minimal) off any type of trail or snow mobile, logging rd etc. and it's a pretty obscure path leading in. I have the sign 40 to 60 yds away from the bait. If someone has found my secret path and they're navigating their way in then they're either looking for my bait or for a Trudeau grow-op! They will end up looking at the bait and the camera. It's my feeble attempt to maybe get one last chance to persuade them to please leave it as you found it. Someone who goes through all the set-up I do is probably just crazy enough to have actually hidden another camera that they have not found.
It's like a sign in your window saying your house has cameras. Hopefully the thief will just move on.
A farmer I knew had a sign on his driveway that said. Please stay in your car until the dogs can be located and tied up - you've been warned! Makes you think if you've never been there before.

reminds me of a landowner around here growing up.....he had a big sign at the start of his logging road system . It read. " Survivors will be Prosecuted"

Yeah Rodger. It's sad that it came to this but that one vandalize and camera theft on an established bear bait (had a big bear on it too!) kinda pizzed me off. Only us bear hunters know what kind of effort and planning a bear bait requires. Most guys only have a few spots and losing one because some idiot stumbled into it really makes the blood boil. I really do try to hide my spots and I guess 30 yrs and only one incident actually shows how well they are hidden. Anyway let's move on and get to bear hunting again. I'm probably over reacting but it sure would be nice to catch one of these guys/gals. A good old fashioned beating might be the cure.
Aug 8th isn't coming fast enough!

I know I've noticed signs up that had said "Bear Trapping in Area" ... That one even made me wonder ! Just the thought it conjures up of stepping on an old steel leg hold bear trap will deter most from going in the woods ... let alone that there are bears in the area.
Having said that , I'm sure it's also been a tactic for some of those private Grow-ops.
