As some of you know , I sat out last season. Roger (aka... BEA ...aka... Lost Hunter) had provided me with 2 bears from sports while he was guiding in New Brunswick for North Shore Guide Services the spring of 2018. Then the first week of the fall season my Buddy Benny called with another bear for me. With a freezer full of meat I saw no need to take another animal just for fun. Once again this year Roger has just sent me another spring bear just days ago. (Big shout out to Bernie B once again for his donation)
This year I have a new dilemma. I'm on the list for a knee replacement but have no idea when I may get the call for surgery.
I've been siting here going thru my old Tcam photos from past seasons, remembering those beautiful fall days with nothing but the sounds and smells of the woods from my 15 foot perch. Patiently waiting and watching for a glimpse of that bluish black fur thru the the stilted spruce around me.
I really don't want to miss out on another season, My biggest issue right now is mobility. I'm still working but my ability to walk in the woods across uneven ground greatly diminished. I can still climb a ladder and my site is an easy walk to get to. I was opting for a new site this year, on the same gated road. Roger's old "Way Back" site is the perfect location but the trail may be a little more than my knee will take. I'm just one wrong step away from disaster.
I guess until I hear from the DR.s office I'll tentatively plan on hunting this fall. If for nothing else but for my sanity.
Maybe take the Grizzly out for a little Recon mission for a new set up. The 4 km privately gated road I'm on is big bonus and affords me some degree of security from other hunters.
Like most other bear hunters , bait can be a real problem come fall with multiple bears and limited resources. Skeeter being the exception to the rule with his Hi-tech barrel designs and set ups. My landlord does a lot of the county fares during the summer and has a commercial popcorn maker so I may hit him up to possibly rent it.
OK ..This is just what I needed ... someone to talk to, or at least patiently listen to me ramble on and talk myself into hunting this fall, that is of course surgery call permitting. Glad that's settled !
Cheers
