I'm a firm believer that having your scent around as you bait programs the bears not to be spooked by your scent when you hunt. What are your thoughts or practices while baiting ?

I’ve always done my own baiting even with a guide, let’s the bears get used to me. The guy that got me started used to say that the bears know you’re there. They just want to grub more.

I make no attempt to reduce my scent when baiting. I want the bears to learn to associate my scent with feeding time. Last season I took an extra t shirt in with me when I made a bait run. I put the one I’d been wearing up in the stand and wear the extra one going out. Exchanged t shirts each time in. The only time the bears were a bit apprehensive was whenever I brought someone different in to sit in the stand, but I never had any that spooked.

I have to agree with your Philosophy Nontypical !
There are so many different scents at my bait that it just becomes part of the mix. I wear no gloves to handle my barrels and if I do wear them its only to keep my hands from getting gooey. One piece of advice I'd give to new hunters is to tend to your trail cams before handling any bait. That would be the one time I'd recommend gloves, for obvious reasons. Nothing worse to see than a chewed up Tcam when you come into bait.
