Pic's or Video's? What to use?
Trail cameras are a great tool. My advice is to set your camera on video mode. You will go through a lot more batteries but the intel is priceless. You'll be able to see entry and exit patterns and you'll never over-estimate the size of your bears. More then 75 % of the guys think they have a big bear because the bear is in front of the barrel, or standing on a mound or on slightly elevated ground. Bears seem to know how to take a fishermans photo. Small fish - extended arms. We all know how big the fish becomes. Varmints and birds can drive you crazy and use up batteries but when you factor in all the effort and time and $ the last thing you want is sketchy intel. A picture is worth a thousand words BUT a video is a book!

Camera protection - SAVE YOUR CAMERAS
Here's 2 examples of bear proof boxes I have come up with over the years. I have other variations of these as well.
You can make your own or buy the bear/theft proof boxes for your cameras. Either way add a few nails on to the front of the box. The bears will approach and they just seem to know that they'll get stabbed. Ever since I went to this I have NEVER had a box tampered with. Some bears have fogged up the lens but that's it!
Another adaptation I use now is - I weld on seven or eight 1/4" nuts to the face of the box. Then I sharpen a tip on a 2" piece of threaded rod. (put the piece into a drill and spin it up against a running bench grinder. a perfect point in no time!) I screw the threaded end into the nut with the point sticking outward. This allows you to remove the points for transportation or to use the box during deer season. Carrying the nailed version resulted in a few stabs to yours truly! It hurts like hell!
There's an earlier version with nails welded on. This one is left at the baitsite area year-round. To dangerous to my health to transport.
Here's the current latest design - screwed on version - removable points
