As some of you know , here in Nova Scotia we have no spring hunt , so I'll respond based on some of the fall temps we have here. With the season starting the second week of September some of the daytime temperatures can still be quite warm.
For myself I'm quite apprehensive about hunting bear with bow during those warm fall days and nights . My biggest fear is having to return in the morning to track a bear only to find that it has spoiled overnight. Should that be the case my season is over. I feel a lot more comfortable hunting when the nighttime temps dip to low 40's f (4*c) at least. If it goes lower than that even better.

tuk d 1 I'd vote for spring without fail. Early spring pelts are wicked. Bears are hungrier. Its the rut. It's a slower time of the year for most hunters. This is when most bear complaints roll in. If you look at say a typical month long season of say May vs September. For NS here are the average mean temps. May is deff lower by a good bit. If u look at a say may june vs seot oct.....its pretty close. I dont think one would result in more hunting days in weather thats too warm than the other. With rare exception in in my experience, any bear that sits over night has a good chance of being sour.

Both? Any time I can hunt bear is a great time. Gets me away and keeps me sane. Spent all last week finding the perfect 6 arrows to put in my quiver. Today I’m starting to work up a new load for my favorite rifle. You can never be too ready.

I'm guessing the duffle full of camo is already sitting by the door!
After almost 5o years (OMG !!!) of Fall hunting seasons , a Spring hunt seems foreign to me, it just doesn't seem to be in my DNA. Autumn has always been my favorite time of year , mainly I guess because there was always that anticipating of the start of grouse season as a young boy. We waited all year for that. I never started deer hunting until I was into my mid 20's and hunting trips with 3 close friends. I was into my 30's before my introduction to bear hunting., and that's when everything changed . From that point on I had become infatuated with bears and bowhunting and it's basically the only hunting I do now. I'm not a big fan of deer meat so it made no sense to hunt them just for the sake of killing one.
I have nothing against a Spring hunt , and I'm know there are many good reasons to participate in one. I'm not a trophy hunter so I don't need to take a big boar on a hot sow. I'm quite content to sit in my stand and watch the parade and variety of bears while enjoying in the sights, sounds and smell of autumn. I'm not sure how many hunts I have left in me. Each year seems harder physically and mentally and hunting alone has lost its glamour, I'll just have to see what next year brings ...who knows ...maybe ...

Actually it’s a black Eberlestock Hercules duffel. Bow in the bottom, clothes, boots and pack in the main. Socks, underwear and Thermacell in the sides.
