I have yet to taken a bear, last year was the first year I really tired to hunt them and being the first year I made some mistakes, learned more I guess is a better way to put it, and was unsuccessful. But after a could years of buying bear tags and seeing them I think I will put the rifle down and try the bow. There is something about bow hunting that makes the harvest that much more. Taking a bear with a bow on the ground I think will be the hardest thing for me to do but it will be a huge success in my eyes if I am able to do it. For those who successfully harvested with a bow is there any pointers for me.

Hunting from the ground may be a bit more difficult is so much as the bears have a lot better chance of scenting you. A pop-up blind may help to control your scent somewhat. My preference is to hunt from a treestand .It provides a lot more cover and gives you a great view of any bears that may be coming in.
I hunt with a longbow so my range is rather limited, my stand is actually only about 13 yards from the barrels. ( if you look at my bait barrel setup in your previous post you can see my stand in the background). With a compound you can stretch that out to 20-30 yards which definitely works to your advantage. I usually try and set my stand so that the setting sun is at my back so that if the bears look up the sun may help to obscure their view. Also remember that air currents rise during the day and fall in the evening so consider that if you're setting up in hilly terrain.
Here's a picture taken from the treestand to show how I use the trees to break up my silhouette.
Hope this helps you some.

Thanks Tuk, maybe I will set up a stand and hunt that way until I learn more about them before I hunt them from the ground. Appreciate it.

Don't get me wrong Mack ... hunting bears from the ground is a real adrenalin rush ! It's amazing how they just appear out of nowhere without making a sound.
Regardless of which way you choose to hunt, let the bears show you their travel routes before you set up your stand/blind. Once they start coming they will have paths beaten down to your bait site. You will then have a better idea where to set up for your best opportunity at a shot at a bear.If hunting from an elevated stand make sure your bait site allows you several choices for a treestand. For me, I spend a lot of time looking at potential tree stand sites when I find a spot I want to set up. If it doesn't offer me several choices I keep looking.
Any time your in my neck of the woods just give me a shout and I'll show you a couple of my sites.

I took my first bear from the ground with my bow and it was a rush. The outfitter took me in to a new bait and there was just no place to put a stand. I ended up tucking in by a root wad of a fallen tree. All was quiet and then the bear was just there. He walked by and then turned and started walking back. He went by at 15 yards when I released the arrow. When I realized what had just went down, I was shaking so bad, I had trouble standing. The bear went about 40 yards through a thicket. Found him dead in some honeysuckle, watching his back trail. At that point, bear hunting was in my blood.

Too Funny ilbowhunter ! I think that's what Oprah calls a "Ah Ha Moment"
I've yet to do the ground game, mind you I've been on my hands and knees in the dark many's a time, looking for a speck of blood to find a dead bear looking back at me. It's a pocket filler for sure.
If the wife ever gives me my Gonads back I might give it a try! It is addictive for sure!
