Things are great from this end Edge. Winter for the most part was quite good . A couple late Nor'easters back to back in February but otherwise pretty good. Snow is all but gone here as well . Still a bit in country but with the mild March weather it shouldn't be around much longer.
Something tells me Ole Mother Nature ain't quite finished with us yet tho ! I expect she has at least one more dumping left for us yet !
Get that string waxed up !

Good show the the bow season deer! My grandsons weren't sure about venison. My wife snuck some under a layer of mashed potatoes in a shepard's pie. & now they're crying for more. Just got back driving back home (65 miles) from BC border...plenty wind & cold rain. Glad Tuk's winter almost over.

nothing really to report. We just got another snowfall and I'm heading off to Cuba for some fishin, wineing and dining and womanizing. My hunting partner is visiting his son in North Bay and they're installing a Bear Vendor baiting system (skeeter feeder). His son owns 150 acres abutting a provincial park on one side and crown on the other.
I have been busy in the garage/shop making tweaks to upgrade our 5 current Bear Vendor systems. We had one bait site that had a nice boar on it BUT somehow a little sow with 2 cubs figured out how to beat the system. Needless to say - we never seen the boar again. We got hundreds of videos of her and we're sure the tweaks will get rid of her. She was the only one at any of the baits that beat us. We had 5 monsters on the other 4 baits BUT the system was not as foolproof as we thought. I hated feeding that sow but she did us a favor with the education we got.
We are heading to bear country on May 8 (before the bugs) for a week to get the upgrades into our Bear Vendors.
We have no plans to hunt the spring hunt. The fall bears are larger, weather is nicer, leaves changing, hides are not rubbed. We only have 1 tag each so this factored into our decision also.

Didn't get drawn for Spring this year. Last time it took me 7 yrs. Looked at my birthday & did the math. Don't want to talk about it.

Last Friday, 1st day out...ran into 3 fresh (max 2 wks old) peels, set out trailcam...will chk it in 2 more days. Here I am sitting here w/license & tag in my wallet & season don't start 'til 1 Aug!
At least I can scout eh? Beats honey-dos or sitting on this sofa. Work out (a little), reload some ammo, practice at range...ah retirement it is worth waiting for.
Hey Edge! How's my Northern Neighbor doing out on Vancouver Island? Run across any of Jim Shockey's Cave Bears yet?

I'll be heading up to nearby New Brunswick for a quick bear hunt....7 sites are being hit steady now ( until last week they still had snow in the woods up North). I have been waiting on a bruiser to show before going up...pretty sure I dont want a small one.....and about 2 hrs ago just got notice that a legit biggie just showed up last night....so hoping to get up asap.

I'll be heading up to New Brunswick in 3 weeks. The outfitter has posted a few photos of a couple of bruisers and a couple that were tagged this week. Not quite ready for the trip yet, but can't wait to go. Good luck when you go up there.

I'll be heading up to New Brunswick in 3 weeks. The outfitter has posted a few photos of a couple of bruisers and a couple that were tagged this week. Not quite ready for the trip yet, but can't wait to go. Good luck when you go up there. You've got time! Do yourself a favour and get a couple old t shirts. go cut the lawn - go for a run - anything to sweat the t shirts up real good. next day put them on again and repeat - after about 3 days you'll have a hard time putting them over your head. Now they're ready!
wipe your privates on the shirt also - anything "YOU" is good.
Vac seal them and send them to the outfitter. tell him to hang #1 t shirt right at the bait - 6 days before your hunt - then the 2nd one 2 days before you go. This will condition the bear to YOU. Odds are you'll get the bear on the first hunt. Then you can fish for a week!
Most guys need to hunt 4 or 5 days before a bear will adjust because he KNOWS YOUR THERE! - if he ever does! -
If there's a person leaving after they wait you out then you might never get him. NOW HE KNOWS!
Every time I rebait I take off the shirt I'm wearing - usually sweated up by then. I wipe the family jewels and the nearby azz crevice for good measure. I tie the shirt as close as possible to the bait hole. I've got lots of videos of bears rubbing their faces in the shirts. Eventually they pull it down. Your first hunt is your best chance to tag out. Make sure the wind is right. The "YOU' t shirts condition him that the smell can be overlooked and doesn't arouse any suspicion .
