These to me are the doldrums of baiting. Baits are set. Bears on each bait. No energy to put out more. Two weeks til the season opens. The game now is to keep the bears there. Some say berries interfere with baits but Ive never noticed that. Ive started some years in July and held them there right to the season. Of course they eat berries...but they continue to return each evening. I'm running them solo again...and thats good and bad lol. No schedules to align . If I wanna bait I bait...if I dont wanna bait....I bait anyways lol. Deer and bear open here the same day. I have decent animals at bear and deer stands. I'm not sure where I'll sit. Ive offered my bear stand to a couple folks....so they may sit my bear stand. Good luck to everyone this fall I'll post this one for tuk lol....he loves good selfies. This was brutally hot day. Made 4 trips into the bait with treats....  |

checked cam after 3 days...over 900 pics....after wasting a couple hrs poring over them....and with the addition of a new sow with 3 year 1.5 yo cubs...pretty sure there are 9 bears at the Soggy Soles bait.   |

the barrels must be just for sizing .. right?
My bait conservation plan is working .. went up on the 8hr bear run ... multiple bears at each bait and I went through 6 bags total at 5 bait sites over 8 days.
one site needed 2 1/2 2 other sites needed 1 1/2 each and 1/2 in the 4th spot ....
the 5th site had a total of 8 different bears visit it over the last 26 days and I'm down about 1" in the barrel from some thieving raven. All these bears where not big enough and are non-target animals. Kinda sad not to have the bear action BUT when I think about it why would I want it! One more week to go to see if we can get a shooter to find it. We added another "bear call" sprayer. This set-up requires more call lure. HE needs to find us. If he doesn't I will bring the dried food home for next year. Where have you ever heard of that before! |

Another day at the Office ...You retired guys !
Looking good there Dr. Dolittle ... wherever he goes .. the animals follow. seems like buckets of fun there.
And of course where would we be without Professor Skeeter-Feeder.
Soon time to see the fruits of your labor ...so to speak.

Most likely Mack11.
I have a picture of one at my site this year I call Stubbie.This is his third season with me ... his wound was fresh 3 years ago. Always great to have him on my Tcam each year. Pic on my Tuk 17 posts.
Here he is back in 2015 and this year. He's grown some but still has a scrawny build.
You getting out at all this year ?

I have been out a couple times, Travelling to halifax daily to do my block for my millwright apprenticeship. I get out the odd friday evening and Saturday. I have to check the cameras tomorrow so will post with updates. Whats a goof posting site now for pictures

Lost hunter was having the same issue ...pretty expensive bait!

All the bait was gone so there's bears that's the 4th camera you've lost to bears ... and you're still just hanging cameras??? DUH 
try a box with points. I had one camera punctured but still useable about 15 years ago ... started making boxes with welded on nails back then and now removable 1/4-20 threaded rod 2" long points. never had a camera even touched since then.

I try to get out on Friday evenings and Saturdays had a sow and cub come in the other evening but that was it so far. Travelling from Pictou to Halifax everyday for school its hard to find the time this year. But still plan on getting out as much as I can |

Thanks for the idea. The camera I put out I set up. High angled down. Hopefully I don't loose another was thinking on welding up a box but no time to lately. I'll see what scrap I have around the shop this weekend and weld something up |
